I've spend too many hours installing/configuring/downloading things on this laptop. If I ask for a replacement (i don't like this lcd) . Can I just swap HD? and everything should boot up fine?

As long as the specifications are identical, you'll be fine. The only way I could see it going wrong was if you had a different GPU, WiFi Card, or BT card...then you'd probably just have to install new drivers.
But I don't think there would be a problem to just swap the drives if they are identical! -
make sure to ask dell i was told every piece of the system has serials on it internally like small white tags.. if they get it back and notice they dont match the one that was loaded in that system they could charge you .. again cant be sure but i would def call them and tell them of your concern and be nice and ask first

Dell told me this is a common practice when I asked about this before. There is only one hiccup. You need to somehow get the Vista sticker off the old system and onto the new one.
It is very common for replacements to have the owner change hard drives as he has set his OS up to his liking. -
I'm going to do a full rebuild when i receive my replacement as that gives you a good opportunity to also test the laptop.

I agree totally but can i ask a favour. Can you attach your HDTune results for that HD? I curious...and tryng to put something together.
If dell sends a new replacement laptop, can I just swap HD
