Don't buy processors from Dell. They ROB you. With their prices, you can buy a new notebook.

I don't think anyone sensible enough to change their cpu would not buy it from Dell. Thanks for showing the prices though.

Nasty markup! A new T8300 is $200 plus shipping on Ebay.

Also, keep in mind that not everybody is able nor willing to change the CPU on their laptops themselves. Laptops are a real pain in the @$$ to work in and one wrong move could mean a lot of problems.

Even though average Joe would be able to get the CPU himself, Average Joe will still need to pay someone to install it. And guess what?

That's about $100-$200 in labor, so savings are very minimum. You're just better off sending it to the manufacturer or authorized shop and have it covered under warranty.

I agree that one wrong move can do a lot of damage, but they are no more a PITA to work with than a desktop computer. Obviously things are smaller and more delicate, however I've opened several different Dell notebooks without any prior knowledge of their interior, and haven't had any problems reassembling them.......and they even turned on afterwards! :)

I agree. I've worked on laptops and desktops as well.

Again, my point is that Average Joe may have problems in doing so. ;)

I don't think the price reflects labor included.

Last time I called them, T7600, and 7400 was 20 bucks difference, close to 1k, and it didn't include labor. T7600 was 400 bucks on Ebay back then.
