    Hi Guys.

I've searched these forums but cannot find any reference anywhere.

Have picked up an Inspiron 17R from Dell as a factory refurbished, with a 1.86GHz P6000. I believe the model is an N7010.

I'd love to fit an illuminated keyboard to this model, but do not know if it supports one... Does anyone have the definitive on this please, and maybe a part number?

e.g. I know Asus illuminated keyboards have a seperate narrow flexi-cable to provide the power to the LEDs, and that the motherboard has to therefore have an extra socket specifically for this unless you want to solder a couple of wires onto a 5V supply somewhere... Can anyone clue me up on how Dell's illuminated keyboards are configured please?

    Regards

    Craig

It works just like your talking about.

Just bought a backlit keyboard for my 1558 and there is a second ribbon cable to power it.It also has a hotkey on the keyboard to turn it on/dim/off

It being a newer laptop(17r) im sure it supports it...the hard part would be finding one unless you order it straight from Dell

Oh, and does anyone know please if:

    1. The brightness adjusting keys send signals back to the motherboard so that the voltage from the LED supply socket can be varied by the BIOS, or:

    2. Does the keyboard have a constant 5V supplied to it all the time the laptop is powered, and the keys control some circuitry on the keyboard its self to vary the LED brightness?

    thank you

Hi everyone, sadanorakman i have the same exact problem as you i have a Dell Inspiron 17R (N7110) , And i want to add a backlit keyboard to it, i had a dell studio 1737 before with backlit keyboard and i'm really missing it, I did some research and seems to me that XPS 17 and dell inspiron R17 (N7110) have the same exact keyboard, they did backlit keyboard on XPS 17, Here is the part number for it '' L702X '', My concern is how to power it since theres no extra socket on the motherboard for the flexi-cable of the keyboard... I know it's been a while for the last entry on this post i hope maybe someone can help us, sadanorakman did you find a way to make it work even if we don't have eaxctly the same Inspiron R model ? Please give me some updates on this.

    Thanks.
