All I'm reading now is how this and that piece of hardware/software are having compatibility issues with Vista. Haven't these manufactures not had enough time to develop Vista compatible hardware and software/drivers?? Dell's "solution" for my 1390 mini-card is to run the XP driver. The Intel card is going in on Monday. iTunes, NVIDIA and the list goes on.

The thing about the Personal Computer (PC) platform is the vast amount of different hardware and software from hundreds of different companies everyone expects to just work together flawlessly. Hardware drivers do not run in a sterile environment inside of Windows. The drivers have to interact with software programs and other hardware drivers in order to perform the functions they're coded for. If you do want your computers to function properly, as I do, I'd advise to wait a few months, usually when Service Pack 1 is released, before adopting any new Microsoft operating system. This gives the software and hardware driver codewriters time to iron out a good percentage of the compatibility problems.

Vista drivers fiasco irks geeks who feel duped -
My friend shelled out $600+ for the GeForce 8800 GTX and it will not run on his computer with Vista. Venders have had how long to get ready?

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
Bleeding edge anything will have a multitude of problems, I am truely impressed overall with how well vista has been running on my desktop, true, not everything works as well as it dd in xp, but everything works, and remarkably well to boot.
You have to take everything from the inquirer, with a few thousand grains of salt, even the date. As for the 8800, I know a lot of folks that are running it, theres no sli yet, and the drivers are far from 100%, you just have to be paitent for that, If your friend is a hardcore gamer, he should have had the common sense to wait for the vista platform to mature before moving from XP, there is no reason for a gamer to want vista right now, there are no dx10 apps, all the games right now were made for XP, and it will be awhile before vista catches up.
If all pc parts were standardized, I would be very upset with the vista launch, but they arent, there are millions, posiibly billions of hardware combinations, and its insane to think that everything will work perfectly the first official launch week. For an OS upgrade, you should expect a few serious issues for at least a year, the fact that ALL my hardware runs, and ALL my apps run during launch week gives me reason to give a hefty dose of praise to all involved with the vista launch, granted, they dont run as well as they did in xp, but that will change as it matures.
Expecting a flawless OS launch transition is like expecting a newborn to be toilet trained right out of the womb, your expectations are bit high. -
It most likely depends on the devices that you have your laptop. My transition to Vista has been quite painless to say the least. I did run into some issues with the Synaptics Touchpad early on but I got drivers from there website, which resolved everything. As far as video drivers I pulled them from laptopvideo2go. As far as with every OS launch there are going to be early incompatibility issues, that is why it usually takes companies 6-8 months to adopt the new OS, if they will or not.
