I received my Vostro 3550 yesterday, which I ordered with 1 DIMM of 2GB 1333MHz RAM. I had another 2GB kicking around, so before I ever turned on the machine I opened it up to add the extra 2GB. What do I find, but 2-1GB DIMMS in there!
This morning I phoned Dell about it and they are sending me a 2GB stick and a shipping label to return the other 2-1GB stick, and the tell me that I'll receive the new RAM tomorrow. If this is truly the case, I am extremely happy with Dell's customer service. :D I'll post back with results!

I got my RAM shipment on Tuesday, June 28th. Included in the box was a return label to ship the two incorrect DIMMS back to Dell, so I swapped out the RAM, put the others back in the box, taped it up, and arranged for UPS to come pick it up at my door. No complaints! Quite happy with Dell right now.

So you really have two removable slots in the 3550?

Specifically I am asking because 3550 manual only says "removing the memory module" in singular while the older 3500 manual says "removing the memory module(s)" in plural. Also in the older 3500 manual photo I clearly see two memory slots, while with the newer 3550 manual I can only guess the thing below is another stick, but can't tell for sure.

    See 3550 http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/vos3550/en/SM/GUID-A24C24C5-06DC-4DF5-BBDC-9C3D2C8AC705.html versus older 3500 http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/vos3500/en/SM/Memory.htm.

Considering buying one, but want to make sure I can up it to two sticks 4GB each for total 8GB.

There are definitely two slots, one above the other (with a slight offset, of course).
