Down to about 10% RAM on the Inspiron. A friend said go to ww.crucial.com and I can buy two new RAM chips with greater capacity to replace the two original.. I am a non-techie. Can I do this? How would I install them? Is there any follow-up or issues after they are installed?

Thankfully with ram it's a pretty straightforward procedure of popping the old ram out and clicking the new ones in... of course this is all minus opening your laptop up, make sure you have something metal nearby to ground yourself on so there's no nasty discharge from you.. :D,

Oh but I forgot to ask what kind of comp are you upgrading so we can figure out the right ram to get you

RAM is one of the simple things to upgrade in almost any computer.
Just let us know what Make/Model Inspiron you have and we can point you in the right direction.

Just as an example, I upgraded my sisters Inspiron 1420 from 1GB to 4GB, and there is a big difference in performance. She tells me that the laptop seems to perform faster than before the upgrade. I also noticed a decrease in start-up time for Windows Vista.

As long as your laptop is relatively new, then this memory should work pretty well. No Inspiron uses DDR3 now, so as long as it's newer than 3 years that should work. Like the other's said, we'd be more helpful if we knew you exact model.

I installed that into my brother's laptop in about 2 minutes, his laptop was able to perform tasks with much more ease then.
