    Hi,

I have an old Inspiron 8100. It stops working after about 10-30 minutes and needs to be rebooted. I think its the fans.

Before I take it in for repair, I wanted to check on how to upgrade it, maybe get more RAM. Dell doesn't admit the 8100 existed, and neither does Newegg.

So my question is the 8100 essentially the same as the 8200? What is the maximum RAM the 8100 can have (I've read 512 MB). Does anyone have any more info, like a website or something about the Inspiron 8100?

I know, I should probably upgrade, but I don't use it for much. I just want it to work, and to work a little faster. And with Windows Vista requiring 2GB, its pretty steep to get a new computer. Plus, the university hasn't switched to Windows Vista, so there might be headaches there.

    Hi all,

I found it. Dell won't sell upgrade parts for the 8100, but they did have the manual. 512MB is the maximum, so I guess I'll be saving pennies to buy new.
