Info for you all on the dell inspiron 1520

OK I got my 1520 today (stats in sig) So I thought that I would run some tests on different things and answer your question if you have any to ask.

sry I was too lazy to use image dump for these.

Next, I will address the graniness. There is none on the 1280x800 screen so my screen is beautiful.
The issue of the Flimsy lid latch is present on my laptop, but it really is not enough to worry about causing you any trouble.
The whiney noise in the headphones Is audible when my headphones are muted, but even on the lowest volume setting the sound is blocked out.
Overall, none of these three big issues are a problem on my system.

The only game I have installed so far is Coh. Here are the the stats and frame rates form the stress test.

The game is very playable at these frame rates. I also tried to play with the dx10 updates on, but they make the game unplayable and do not look much different at all.

So far everything works great. I wwill keep updating this thread with new stats form different things as I put the on my laptop.

I'm going to really have to turn down the detail on CoH because those framerates aren't going to work with me, plus I have a high resolution. Blast.

 

not necessarily. I was dooing htose while defragging my hd and with stock drivers. PLus if you turn down shadows to low that fps goes to an average of 40 so that will help you

 

anyone want anything else posted?

 

what type of headphones are you using? USB? headset with volume control on it?

 

just a normal headset a $40 phillips one without a volume control on it Let me see if I can find it online

Wtf... Mine was estimated to ship today but it is still in the build stage and I ordered a lot longer than 6 days ago!

 

When you first boot up it gives you the option between a few different backgrounds form dell, windows, and sample pictures

hmm I think my laptop got delayed till the 2nd so they could build yours Getting yours in less than a week is crazy.

Yea I think part of it was that I went with the jet black. Plus since I got pretty much the nicest config they probably tried to help me get my lappy faster

 

You are lucky. I told them I needed mine by 7/26 and my first ship date was 7/25, well that has passed. Now I have to go back home to get it.

As you can see both are very amazing and are easily playable fpss. This game works great! I am amazed by it.

 

That's great, I just hope I can run it at 1680x1050 at medium settings and get 30+.

 

Ya mines not shipping for about two weeks. I don't really need this laptop though, so I don't mind all that much.

I don't even know if I will be doing any games on this laptop. I'm too addicted to Gears of War.

 

The only console I have right now are all the last gen ones. I can't bring myself to spend that much money on a console. My friend just bought a Wii, and even though it's the "cheapest", after he bought the pretty much mandatory four controllers, it's not quite as cheap. And there is no way I could have a Wii with only one controller, that would be dumb.

The PS3 is about to drop the $500 model, change the $600 model to $500, and make a new $600 one, but that's still too much. I want a price DROP, not a price change Sony...

And the 360, well the only thing M$ has done is release that overpriced elite model. So in other words, I can't console game right now >_>

I want my WoW and CS:S

 

I think I might get into PC gaming when Gears hits the PC. I might even pick up CS.

I'd like to see what kind of fps would be gotten with a slight overclock of the gpu. On the 1520 the gpu is a severe bottleneck. This means that any increase of its clocks would translate directly into more frames per second. I'd be happy with 45+ fps on cs:s without dipping lower (unless the camera is placed way above the map), but it doesn't look possible with 4x antialiasing (a must) and 4x filtering without overclocking. We just need someone to be a hero and slowly work their way up to a ddr3 clock setting with the latest drivers and then play cs:s.

 

Me too, think we all three pretty much have the same config, except I have the anti-glare screen. I ordered Tuesday, went to Boxing Wednesday, and I checked this morning (Friday) and it had shipped. I'm expecting it Monday, so six days for me too. (I didn't request expedited service or anything, that's what they told me on my original order and I waited nearly a month for it to ship, lol)

 

sry I was sleeping Overall, I am happy with my processor choice because otherwise I would have chosen a higher rez which I think I wouldn't really ever need because my 1280x800 is big enough. I'm not sure it makes a very big difference is speed, but I like knowing that I got the best and that It will last me longer

No pixels are enough for me. I always want more pixels. MORE PIXELS. I wish I could have gotten my high res screen with anti-glare. Arbitrary things like that make me angry.

 

i hope mine gets shipped as fast as some of you all.

how is the battery life and how "bad" (so i'v read) do the new style media buttons really look?

 

I haven't tested the batter ylife yet. I will probably tonight. The media buttons, I actually like. They are a shiny silver color and light up blue when you press one. I think they look good!

 

If you want to get it in a reasonable amount of time then you should probably get a black case rather than one of the fancy colors.

 

mine was 4 days! I think it depends on where you ordered and where it is being manufactured and the bulk of orders to manufacture! I'm in Singapore and the manufacturer was from Malaysia, and the inspiron line is just getting its attention these past few days here im actually replying this forum using my new 1520!

the media buttons don't seem that bad for me. they light up only when u press them. they don't look too sturdy though, but they're working fine.

 

I got mine in 6 days too. Jet Black shiping to California. Almost max in everything.

 

yikes! guess 8600M GT is quite a bit weaker compared to the desktop 8600GT
my 8600GT, Pentium D 2.8, 1GB RAM desktop gets 33fps average on COH test with everything maxed at 1280*1024 resolution.

 

This have to be the record deliverytime on this forum! I've heard about a sic days delivery, but four?! Thats an alltime high!

I have been waiting for mine for 16 days now... and its still not in production! Thats a downside of living in north europe! (norway)

 

same goes for my laptop (germany). i ordered july 13th and it took till 26th till it got into production. finally they handed it over to UPS yesterday evening and i'm awaiting it for tuesday.

btw where does dell europe produce? the UPS status page says something about "Limerick, IE" which according to wikipedia is a town in ireland (?!)

 

It isn't necessarily because you live in Europe. I ordered mine on the 8th and was supposed to ship yesterday, but was delayed a week (for now). I live in the states.

Oh and I'm pretty sure that all Dell computers start in Malaysia.

 

I hope mine ships before Tuesday. That would make me so happy.
