well, i feel for people who are just ordering...most of the colors have been delayed alot! i just check on dells website and right now it is as follows:

    color - delay time

    Jet Black - None
    Espresso Brown - None
    Ruby Red - None
    Midnight Blue - 15 days
    Spring Green - 15 days
    Flamingo Pink - 13 days
    Sunshine Yellow - 11 days
    Alpine White - 12 days

im glad i choose the brown color...i hope i get mine before they start saying it'll be delayed
when i ordered on the 23 the longest delay was 5 days for the blue and green (if i remember correctly)

I'm surprised there's no delay for ruby red. I kind of wish I went with Alpine White, but I'm very broke. :(

mind you as an owner of brown, it's more black than brown... but at least no fingerprints... like you have to really catch the light a certain way to see it brownish... it's very very very dark.

how is the 1520 in terms of heat? Does it get hot very soon and keep running the fan, all the time

(i have a latitude D810 and Inspiron8000 and the heat problem is very annoying.. i didn't see this much problem on my ThinkPad A31).

The Inspiron 1520, so far, is being noted for being extremely cool, and even handling overclocking without heating up much. Unusually cool for a laptop of its size and power.

    Theyve delayed it twice.

If they ship on the current estimate shipping date, that means I will have waited 52 days for them to ship. (Not deliver.. SHIP)

    (sigh)

Im leaving for Italy on the 16th. Thats what I need the laptop for. If it hasnt shipped by the 13th-14th, I have to cancel.

sry i've been gone a few days, but heat has been no issue for me. I watched a movie with it on my lap in bed and I noticed no burning heat. The bottom was a little warm, but since it vents out on the side for the most part my 1520 stayed pretty cool.

    mtylerjr,

how is gaming on your laptop with the WSXGA+ resolution? I'm quite new to all this and i heard that it's recommended to play games with the laptops native resolution. is there a huge difference in visual quality when compared to playing a game with a res of 1440x900 on the native screen res, and 1440x900 on a 1680x1050 res screen?

if i decide to switch the screen res down to 1440x900 in vista and play games on the same resolution but on a 1680x1050screen, would there be any graininess?? thanks!!!

haha my bad, i thought you'll have received your laptop. no worries...do write a deep review though! hmmm i'm being a little indecisive, i do like the idea of the alpine white glossy color, but midnight blue and expresso looks tempting too...argh hahaha...how am i gonna decide? anyone has real world pics of all the colors besides those on the official dell page?

If you want to know what the white looks like, look at the old Inspiron notebooks with the white bumpers. It's pretty much the same color. Therefore, I suggest eliminating white from your choices if you haven't already done so.

i haven't seen any of the colors in person. there are no dell centres where i live. damn...i guess the alpine white reminds me of the Mac Book Pro haha, gives the 1520 the premium apple white look hahaha. i also wonder whether the palm area of the notebook would fade in color. i saw a couple of my friends Dell laptops and they all seems to have faded colors in the palm area. i hope it doesnt happen to the 1520, it'll be a shame really....

Ohhhhh no!!!!! The alpine white is NOWHERE NEAR the color of a Mac Book Pro. Don't even THINK about getting the white because you want to match it to the Mac's. You will be very disappointed when it arrives.

hahaha, judging by your reaction, looks like i'll have to change the color, dang, wish the colors were swappable.....looks like it'll have to be either midnight blue or expresso!!! gotta call my Dell sales rep. just a small favour, could those who have received their 1520's post pics of the cover? that way, at least we'll get an impression...don't think i'll be the only one...

in general the 1520 is a very well cooled computer. even on soft surfaces where the cooling capabilities should be stifled, i have never felt this laptop overheat.

any WARMTH at all  cuz the laptop im on now stays as cool as the table it's on. so i guess you could say i'm extremely sensitive to any heat. so, even a little warm at all or none?

I can only answer the Vista part, and even that will be by using my common sense, as well as memories of XP in the first days of it's release.

Simply put, Vista is new. New things, especially operating systems, tend to be unstable and have a few problems here and there. XP was the same when it was released, but after updates and service packs were released the problems began to fade. Now we're left with a popular operating system. This will happen to Vista in the future as well.

And I guess it'll run smoothly if you have 2 gigs or RAM or more. I hear others saying that less than 2 will result in a choppy Vista.

    Good luck! :)

Yeah 2 gigs of RAM would help you run Vista smoothly though the minimum is 1 gig..... I havent used it on my home PC but I've seen it on my friend's with 1 gig and it was pretty kool though a lil choppy at times :D

If you have the 2gigs of RAM and a decent graphics card (which the 8600mGT CERTAINLY qualifies as), then Vista will run as smooth as pie.

Also, Vista Premium and Ultimate run smoother than Basic.

I believe its because it doesn't come with Aero graphics.

    ...and on an unrelated note...
it doesn't have media center either.

Ok guys, my computer was delayed (big supprise huh?). After an hour and a half i ended up with the manager for customer service, got $100 off and "his word" that he will personaly make sure my order is done asap(HA, i bet he is full of it).
Anyhow i was complaining to them about how they waited until the last minute to notify me my order would be delayed. So he says they have been calling people telling them about the possible delay. I dont believe him for one second. Has anyone here been notified over the phone, before there est. shipping date that there computer would be delayed? Please tell, I really want to know if this guy is a complete lier or what. If you have or havent been called post it here, pm me, or email me at [email protected]. i am VERY interested in how many people they have actually "called" and talked to or left a voice message as he said. Thanks!

Could someone post a link to the inspiron wallpapers. I formatted with the Dell Disk and those aren't there anymore. Not all are available to download from support.dell.com

(I ask because in the second page of the thread there was wallpaper talk)

I would love to see some pics of the Espressobrown....
As any of the few 1520 owners experienced any of the noise, either over the laptop or via earphones?
I have a feeling that Dell is changing something in the laptops... maybe because of the noise... there are so much delivery dates around end of August now. Mine is 24th.

Yeah, it has dual layer capabilities. Though, when I ordered mine, I think I remember Dell noted that these DL DVD's may not work in some other players(not sure whether they mean the logical reason or not - because some other DVD players/burners don't support dual layer).

I just chatted with the Dell Agent online, and I told him that I need my laptop before I go off to school. The original ship date is 8/16/07, but I told him I need it before that. He expedited my order and said it will be shipped before the 16th of August. I also asked him about the noise that dell has in there new laptops he said "Mr.XXXX, I am afraid there is no such problems in Dell systems" I want to know what everyone thinks about this
