you could try cleaning with some of those inexpensive screen wipes.

If the screen wipes work, let us know.
Someone used a ball point pen on the yellow demo lid at the Dell kiosk, and they seemed to think it was permanent.

I'd get rid of the little brother first, then worry about the pen mark! :)

As a last resort, you could try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

Personally I would never bring one anywhere near my laptop as I find them to be on the harsh side. Having said that however, they do work to remove marks which other cleaners have issues with.

try some WD-40, then use alcohol to get the greasyness out, WD-40 is magical.

Care to have a link to where it sell for $35? I also have very small blackish mark on my ruby red cover 1420. I think it's from a pen. I tried to use car wax (I remembered I used wax to get rid of some stain my my car's paint before), but not working...

Again, care to point out where I can get it for $35?

Go here to Dell Parts & Accessories and just put in your model or service tag #. You should be able to find it from there.

Edit: Hmmmm. I find them for the 1520 here, but nothing's coming up for the 1420

    Hello,

This is Richard from Dell's Online Community Outreach. Actually, the Complete Care warranty does not cover this type situation as it was not an accident.

Now, how to get the ink mark off the case? Technically, there are a few solvents like nail polish remover that could remove the ink. But, unfortunately it would probably remove the actual chassis paint as well. Very risky thing to remove the ink as you may cause a bigger blemish on the chassis.

    Regards,

    Richard B

Just leave it alone. You don't want to make things worse by trying to get it off.

i just had a dell technician visit me for a little replacement... he said that the ink mark is pretty permanent... if i use something strong it will fade the red color. so i guess i'll stick with it.

My 1 year old wrote all over my Pink Flamingo cover while my husband was watching her! HA! Anyway, I used Miracle Cleaner for dry erase surfaces by RoseArt and an eyeglass cloth which did a pretty good job. I also tried Mr Clean sponges, hairspray and baby wipes.
