My Insperion 1526 got seriously dropped, broke the left hinge and now it won't boot up. The leds on the CD/DVD/speaker panel on the right side do their right to left and back when I hit the power button and the 3 leds in the center all come on but the right 2 blink. There is no response from the LCD screen at all. I hooked up an external monitor and tried that but get nothing either. I reseated the RAM, took out the battery and tried booting with just the external power but nada. I can touch the CD/DVD control "buttons" and they will respond (light up) but nothing else happens.....it's just sitting there...blinking at me..as I type.

    Any ideas?

It's probably busted. You can take it apart and try to re-seat connectors, etc, but if you're not even getting a picture to the external display, I don't think the prospects for fixing it as is are very good.

If this was a Latitude, the LED blink pattern indicates a memory issue. I couldn't find the diagnostic LED information about the 1526, so I'm going to assume that Dell uses the same pattern for the Inspiron. Check and reseat your memory modules. Remove one and see if the same thing happens.

If you can, remove the palmrest and inspect the motherboard for cracks. The instructions are here:

    Thanks, guys.
1 memory module was loose but I reseated it. I'll try swapping them out 1 at a time and see what happens.
I like to tinker so I'll start the tinker process.
