    Inspirion 5100 will not start

    Hi all hope you can help me!
    I decided to blow all the dust out my laptop as it kept shuting off without warning after about 1hr,
    but when i tried to switch it back on nothing happens, well almost nothing
    the power light comes on then the hdd light flashes and the dvd drive flashes
    but after 12secs the laptop just shuts down, Oh the caps lock light also flashes continually through this process

    can anyone help or surgest what the problem may be thnx

    i hope you didnt fry your motherboard.

    if you disassembled your laptop, make sure every component is connected correctly to the motherboard. check the harddrive, RAM, processor, screen etc...

    if all fails then you have fried your motherboard. i used to have a 5100... they heat like an oven.

    Thanks will try again. :)

    And i cross my fingers i have not fried MB :eek:


    What ever it was something did the trick :)
    removed all replaceable parts and replaced again.
    TaDah it works again.
    Luckly I didn't need to try internal components.
