I have a 640m with the 12.1" screen. It was knocked off a chair by a passerby at an airport and consequently the screen smashed. I would like to replace it(screen) but am having a hard time finding a replacement screen that won't cost me an arm and a leg. Does anyone know if any other model Dell 12.1" will fit; for example INSPIRON 3800, Latitude d400, c400. etc??
If not what would replace it or where might I find a cheap one?
I admit I do not know alot about computers so a little help would be great.

I think you meant a 14.1 screen. Try ebay or craigslist.

Yeah... 640m is a 14 inch machine. 740m, I believe, is the 12 inch variant. It's the same as the e1405, but the cheapest screens on ebay are still floating around 140 USD. It'll be hard to find an older or cheaper screen that fits, since the e1x05 machines are the first Inspirons to switch over to wide screens.

    740m? I think you meant 700m or 710m.

In my opinion, the best would be to sell your computer and buy another one from the outlet. The the e1405 are usually around $500, and you can use a 15% off coupon when available.

Errr... yeah, 700m or 710m. Funny, screens for those two machines actually look like they're cheaper :D
