My gf owns a Inspiron 8600 and it runs incredibly hot. Even in idle the Processor often says it's at 70° C. When she's working it jumps up to 85° C and more or less stays there. The Fans are more or less running constantly, I even tried I8kfangui and manually turned both fans constantly to high, but the temperature wouldn't fall noticeably.
Are these Temperatures normal with this model? I own a Inspiron 9300 and even under hard load it hardly goes beyond 45° C...

it may need a cleaning. canned air and blow out the vents or (probably the better route) open it up and get the dust and grime out of there.

thx a lot, I'll try that tonight, let's see if it does any good.

But you agree that these high temperature shouldn't be the norm, right?

I believe I experience a similar problem on my 8600. How can you tell how hot it's running? Is there a Device Manager thing that has it or a separate program needed?

I use this separate program, it allows you to manually set fan speed as well: I8kFanGUI
