    Hi, first posting here.

Somehow, the X key skin on my keyboard came off, and I am told by the good folks at Dell that I have to replace the entire key board...160 bucks or so to send it to them to have this repair made.

My question is, is there any other way to stick the skin of the X key back on, and by what means? It just seems extremely wasteful to me, not to mention the down-time, to have the entire keyboard replaced for this one key cover.

    Any/all ideas appreciated...

    Thanks.

    Welcome to the forum.

I dont know what kind of specific glue/epoxy would be needed to put the 'x' label back on(or if it will even last) so you might want to see what a local hobby or hardware store recommends. You could also try a marker/pen if you really need it to say 'x'.

The B130 is an old model so the keyboard is probably worn out so I also suggest that you buy another keyboard. You can probably find one at a online store or ebay(both places will be cheaper then buying it from dell-quick google search sees them selling from 10-60 dollars). Here is an online manual that shows you how to replace the keyboard.

Thanks for the advice. This computer is only 2 years old, guess I should have obtained the extended warranty. The part that came off is the plastic key cover, leaving a gaping hole, so I have to fix it...not sure it would be safe to try and stick it back on with glue, or even if it would hold.

My conversation with the Dell folk advised against a self repair, or installing the keyboard by anyone other than a pro due to proimity of the mother board, but after reading the link you sent, I think I can handle it...

    Thanks again...
