My girlfriend has an old Inspiron 1000 and she wishes it had a little bit of a boost in performance. I dont have it available to me right now and I am kinda doing this with out here knowing, but it looks like they came with 512kb of DDR SDRAM on 266 Mhz.
Now was this one stick of 512 or two sticks of 256? Are there even two slots to put memory on this machine?
The most I was able to find for that spec of ram was 512, so if it has two slots I should be able two 512 stick and put in to get 1024. Is it possible to upgrade it to say a 333 Mhz or higher DDR on this machine?
I am new to notebooks so please excuse my newbness. lol

Well I just got on Dell's website and it says the max ram for that series is 512mb and that there is only one spot to put it. So now I just have to go find out how much hers has.
Well I would like to thank myself for all the help I recieved. lol
How many of you still have an older system like this one? -
Well the 1000 she has has 256mb stick installed. So I guess now it is time to buy some more RAM!

Hey thanks man! From that it looks as if it has a non-removable 256 and 1 open slot to put another 256 stick.
