I have been using my new I13 5000 for almost a week now. I have read numerous reviews talking about the week screen performance. I am sitting here right now, typing this and with the screen at only 20% to keep battery life up, it's more than readable in the daylight. I cannot imagine that people need a brighter screen than this. Its much brighter than my old MacBook was. I have no idea what the reviewers view as a bright screen, but it must rip your retinas out. Do not go by the main reviews regarding screen if your looking at getting a inspiron 5000 series notebook. They are great price conscious notebooks to do most everything on!

What panel does you notebook have? You can use Moninfo to give the details.

The version of this notebook reviewed by notebookcheck had an AUO B133HAB LCD and their tests showed an average brightness of 229 cd/m². I know from experience that I would need to use that panel at full brightness under normal lighting conditions in order to stop my eyes from complaining.

I have an AUO b133HAB......I don't know if their test was wrong....but its PLENTY bright in normal lighting conditions. The sun beams right into my kitchen in the mornings and its on 20% and plenty readable. Up on 100% its VERY VERY bright. Way brighter than my old MacBook.

Thanks. It's possible that Dell have responded to criticisms and increased the maximum brightness in a BIOS update - it's easily done provided that the panel backlight can deliver.

They must have. I was worried because I ordered the computer before I read the reviews. I ordered on price/performance ratio. I was using my MacBook before that. This computer kicks the you know what out of the MacBook. Screen, speed, overall OS, etc. I am super pleased with it. Now, Just waiting for my wifes 11 3000 2 in 1 to arrive. I ordered hers a week after mine. Its a white version with the 4 gb ram and 500 gb HD. Once they both get their ram maxed out and SSD in both they will be great machines!
