The cpu fan has started making a rumbling, squeaking noise.

    Is it going to die?
If I dismantle the laptop can I clean it and perhaps oil it.?
Are the bearings dying and it need replacing.?
If so, can I replace it myself.?
What is the life expectancy of a noisy fan.?
Sorry for all the questions but my searches here and on Dell tech support have not found anything.

In my experience, if the fan's condition has deteriorated to the point of rattling or squeaking, it's probably best to replace it. You can try to oil it and see if it helps, but it's kind of a crapshot from what I've seen. It'll still probably last a while without any maintenance... maybe up to a year?

Ok, I think this is a good idea. I just need to find the part.
