I am going to upgrade my Inspiron 1300 RAM, I was told that I have to buy memory originated from Dell or Dell spicified memory. Just wondering can I install Kingston, Corsair, or other brand's non Dell specified notebook memory module to my 1300?
Dell specified RAM is super expensive.
Thanks

Yes you can do this without any problems. Most of us actually do this because of the reason you stated - dell being so expensive.
It doesn't void your warranty, but from my understanding, it is not covered in your warranty. If something should happen to upgraded RAM, then you would be responsible for repair.

Southerngirl is correct. If you upgrade your RAM aftermarket it is not covered by the Dell warranty. Thus if your RAM goes bad, Dell will not replace it.
Hope this helps. -
Thanks for you guys helping. So lucky that I didn't pay extra $100 in my order to replace a 256MB DDR-2 with a 512MB DDR-2.
