    Hi.

A couple of weeks ago, we got an Inspiron 1300 from Dell, and we noticed that, upon playing a music CD on it, whether a copy CD or an original CD, the speakers were making a strange static-like scratch sound every 5 seconds or so.

So, we called Dell and they agreed to send us a new computer after we shipped this one a few times for repair and got it back still malfunctioning. Result: the new one too makes that scratchy sound!!

Any ideas on what might cause this annoying sound?

    Thanks.

have you tried ripping the cd to mp3 to see if the mp3 comes out scratchy too?

It could be that you're reading the music from the CD - transfer that file to your hard drive and see if playing it then yields the same results.

It might be the 1300 itself. The 1300 isn't the best laptop that dell offers and is pretty low quality, so it might be the speakers that they have chosen to use on this system.

Have you tried updating your audio drivers from support.dell.com ? You might try plugging in a set of external speakers and seeing if that works any better.
