    Hello,

I got a Dell Inspiron 1318 from Walmart when it first got on the market. I like the machine, a decent keyboard, upgraded the memory and it is all good - except for the T2390 CPU.

I read the service manual and saw you can upgrade the CPU. What is the maximum CPU you can use to replace the T2390 for this laptop?

If anyone has any used resources or a used CPU - let me know I am interested in buying.

    Thanks!

The 1318 has a Socket P motherboard with a 965 chipset. You can use any Socket P processor with an FSB of 800MHz or lower. The fastest processor that falls in this category is the T9500. There IS the X9000, but I don't think the 1318 BIOS will take it.

    Thanks Wolf.

What is the best place to get a used Cpu? I do not mind getting a used T7xxx or T8xxx instead of paying $300+ for a T9500.

Also can I use the Pxxxx series, or is this a different type?

I tried NewEgg and eBay. All eBay stuff goes from Hong Kong, for some reason. Newegg is too $$ for new stuff.

    Thanks!

You can't use the Pxxxx series as they are all 1066MHz FSB processors. Some of the T9xxx chips are also 1066MHz FSB parts, so watch out.

I would typically buy from eBay. I'm pretty sure you can find options that ship from the US, you'll just have to pay a little more. It still won't be as much as buying a retail chip from Newegg, though.

    Thanks.

    Anybody out there with an OEM/used T5xxx, T7xxxx, T8xxx or T9xxxx?
