I had intended to save up and get the Latitude 620, but I am seeing good deals on the Inspiron 1405 and hearing good things about it, so now I am undecided. Can anyone compare the two for me?

I would be using it mainly for word processing and online work, as well as email and internet research. (travelling occasionally with it) I often have several windows open at once, multitasking, so I plan to get a Dual Core 2 and 1 gb Ram. The 1405 appears to be cheaper, but the 620 sturdier. Any other important differences? Recommendations?

    Thanks!

    D620:
    -Much sturdier (magnesium chassis)
    -removable optical bay
    -option for dedicated graphics
    -more expensive
    -matte screen
    -trackpoint and touchpad
-ability to use a docking station

    e1405:
    -cheaper
    -all plastic construction
    -glossy screen
    -integrated graphics

Either will probably suite your needs, but the Latitude will be better looking (opinion :p), much stronger, and longer lasting.

I agree with everything said by vespoli, but would like to add that the D620 has more security and business features (both standard and available) and that it weighs at minimum .5lb less.

The E1405 also as excellent built in speakers. The D620 just has a single mono speaker that is really quite poor. I think the battery life is also better on the E1405. ~4.5hrs tops with the 6 cell and I think dell claims ~8hrs for the 9 cell. The 9 cell on the D620 sticks out the front. The D620 also comes with a 3 year warranty. The D620 is also ~1/2 an lb lighter. The E1405 also has some very useful media play buttons in the front as well as media direct, and that gives you the option to play DVD's / CD's with out booting up the OS. In conclusion you get a lot more features for your money with the E1405 but you don't get quite the quality that the Latitude D620 has to offer.

The D620 has far less crudware than the I1405/640m. Get the D620, it may be more expensive, but it does have better graphics, better security and a better warranty.

The E1405 has a magnesium chassis. The casing is all plastic.
