    Hi There,

I've spent the past few weeks trying to decide which laptop to buy and decided I should go ahead and buy a Dell. I'm stuck between the 1420 and 1330 so need some help decideing. My main use for my machine will be brunung music, surfing the web and downloading movies, watch and record TV. I'm not a huge gamer but would like a machine that could have the ability to still play games if I wanted to. I customised both machines on the Dell website with the following specs:

    1.8 Ghz
    120 GB Hard Drive
    2Gb Ram
    128 Mb Nivida Graphics Card
    TV Tuner
    9 Cell Battery

The price is about CAD$300 between to the machines....is it worth spending the extra money or is the difference minimal. Are you paying more just to have a more portable machine?

Thanks so much for any feedback you can provide me with,

    Anthony

the xps looks hot man... so yeah think you could go for that.. since the graphics card is the same on both of the systems....

I think the primary difference between the XPS 1330 and the Inspiron 1420 are size and style. I think you should ask yourself how much you will be carrying this notebook around and if you will be traveling at all. A few extra pounds can make alot of different when your carrying a laptop around all the time. The 1330's smaller size also makes it much easier to use on a plane if you intend to. The other difference between the two is style. How much are you willing to pay for that?

I also would get the 1330 but because it is smaller and just as powerful

Main consideration I would think between the two besides the fore mentioned portability is the LED back lighting. For me, battery usage is a big deal while traveling. Up to ~7 hours is a big plus.

You want power without caring much about the size, weight and look? For the 1420, it will be more than enough. You want to have a better build quality, make your friends jealous, attract girls, pay less taxes, and cure cancer? Get the XPS.

the xps also has a hdmi port for digital output of stuff, whereas the 1420 does not, it only has an analog monitor output

the HDMI, weight (less than 4 lbs!) and LED (extra $150) are worth the money. plus, you can sell it for more anyway so you might as well enjoy the premium before you sell it.

If the price is close go for it. But in my case I just could not justify spending 2000$ on a machine that had the same specs as my 1420 minus an HDMI port and LED screen, which is not a big deal because the 1420 came with an WXGA+ screen. My 1420 was 1120$ with shipping and tax. Far better deal. With the money I saved I could build a desktop, put it away ect... I just don't see why people blow that kind of money on a notebook. To each of there own I guess.

I would still choose the XPS 1330 because of the weight I do alot of travelling and having been using a 15.4 inch screen and the weight is a big issue for me, but if the weight is not a concern for you than go for the 1420.
