Does anyone know if Dell has now started putting the nVidia 8400M GS cards with 400 MHz core/600 MHz memory timings in the 1420? Most of the reviews I've seen were from October/November 2007 and said that the 1420's card at 400/500 is not the same as the M1330's 400/600--but perhaps Dell has changed their parts since then? Can anyone who has bought a 1420 recently comment on this?

    I imagine the M1330 uses GDDR3 memory whereas the 1420 uses GDDR2

    incorrect.

Both the 1330 and the 1420 use GDDR 3 ram.

It seems to me all Dell is doing is setting the standard clocks for the video card, which RivaTuner is more than capable of doing.

I have a Vostro 1400 (same as 1420) and i can overclock with Rivatuner to 500/700 no problem...

So all Dell is doing on the 1420 is lowering memory speed? Why would they do that, unless the graphics chips they use for the 1420 are the defective ones?

No, I'm pretty sure the GDDR2 8400m were clocked at 400/500 and the GDDR3 were clocked at 400/600.

Since apparently Dell's started using GDDR3 in the 1420, I expect new ones to be clocked at 400/600 as well.

When I bought mine last summer, it was clocked at 400/500.
