Hello, I purchased my first 1420 in late February and a week later got a screen that said "Dell Media Direct cannot access your Hard drive" and it I could not boot into my OS.
This happened again today on a completely different 1420.
When boot in F8, it says that the only OS available is "XP embedded."
If I start in safe mode and choose "XP embedded, I get the blue screen of death.
If I restart my laptop, I am back to square 1.

    XP Embedded?!

Isn't that OS that's used on Point-of-Sale terminals?

EDIT: Can a Mod move this thread to the Windows OS forum? There's a better chance of getting help there since this doesn't involve an XPS laptop.

UPDATE: It looks like some people were using the MediaDirect button to boot into XP Embedded on top of their main XP installation. Try hitting the MediaDirect button again and see if it boots into your normal OS.

    LOL...I agree

Check out the first page on this forum though, its all XPS posts. He'd have an easier time getting help on the Windows OS forum.
