Arrived 8/7. I really love how solid this thing is. Micro Satin feels nice but don't know how long it will remain spotless.
Here are some photos, just edited them on 1420 in Photoshop CS3 after complete format and reinstall of Vista.

Wow, I was originally going for the Midnight Blue but I changed it to the Jet Black because I thought it looked pretty nice when I saw it at the kiosk. I see your notebook was shipped way before the estimated ship date, congrats!
On a side-note, may I ask what guide did you use to format and reinstall Vista? Do your MediaDirect buttons work? -
Nice, my 1520 was delayed from today to 8/28 can't wait to get my Midnight Blue, looks great.
Thanks for the pics -
does the midnight blue pick up fingerprints as easily as the jet black does? i'm torn between this color and the red.. what a dilemma! haha
-
Thanks! I'd have had it by 8/3 if the Purolator guy didn't run away after seeing the door closed.
No guide really. I tried to resize the partitions from within Vista, but the old version software messed it up so I deleted all partitions and reinstalled Vista only. I hated how MediaDirect works, so I didn't bother installing it again. But the MD cd and instructions that come in the box explains how to reinstall it.
There are no Dell softwares installed anymore. This saved me about 7 GB of space! I don't know what they put on the drive thats so big. -
No, the colored ones are Microsatin (no fingerprints) while the Black is just paint, so it does pick up fingerprints

thats is one sexy laptop!

The distorted image in one of the photos on Flickr is because of it being larger that life and camera angle. -
Amazing. I like the blue.
-
These are some great pictures. Now I just wish someone would take such quality pictures of the Spring Green notebook...

your photos look really good... the blue looks cool. congrats
-
Those are great photos, very well done. Looks great, I can't wait to get my 1721!
-
Great pictures. Can't wait for my Midnight Blue 1420 to arrive.
-
It looks nice, congrats. My espresso brown is coming soon!
I was torn between blue and brown...In the end, I went with brown because it has no delays at the tme of my order (7-30-07) and it is a more professional color for business/formal situations.
I'll post some pics when I get it, which I'm guessing is Monday. -
That is a hot laptop. Congrats!

To vxt: Great photos! I was originally thinking of going with Jet Black for the 1420 I'm thinking of order but those photos changed my mind. I have one quick question for you and all other Inspiron 1420 owners: NBR's latest review on the 1420 claims that the paint for its Espresso Black review unit had some scratches even before it was removed from the box. Can anyone comment on the quality of their 1420's exterior? Thanks.

Nice pictures for those deciding what color to pick.
The only good colors are Midnight Blue and Jet Black imo. -
The blue actually looks quite dark at night under indoor lighting, because of its matt finish. In bright daylight it appears much lighter like in the photos. The silver finish is nice but looks bland a bit, because its just plastic not aluminium. But I really like the keyboard. and the fact that the keys are not black.
