My battery died a year ago, so the only way for my laptop to be bright is if its connected. However today it was dimmed, and when i tried to press FN+ UP arrow all the way to max brightness it doesn't do anything even if its connected.
Is my screen light fried?

Have you tried adjusting the brightness through the power options in Windows?

on Windows Mobility Center? Yes, its turned all the way to the right
Could it also be the charger? After my original messed up, I bought a generic one. It says its connected, and charging though.
I don't want to say the backlight is dead, because its usable, just very very dim as if it were in Power Saver mode. ----- When my old inspirons backlight died, it was unusable, almost pitch black -
WHAT IN THE WORLD??????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MIRACLE
After about 5 days of darkness, I was on youtube, and I said what the heck, let me try and press FN+ Up Arrow hoping it works ( tried it all week hoping it'd one day work ) --- and it actually brighttened by screen?!!!! THERE IS LIGHT!!!!! I CAN SEE !!!!!
I took it to a repair place, and they said it was the Backlight? So what does this mean? Its bright now, was it the inverter? my cheap generic ac adapter decided to mess up - then fix itself? some short of shortage?
Im scared to turn it off now , dim it , or disconnected it because Im scared it wont brighten again.
ANY ADVICE?

EDIT - 20 MINUTES LATER - OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
After over a year of not being able to disconnect my laptop because the battery " was to weak to make the screen bright/ put on High Performance", I tried disconnected my laptop from my AC, and clicked FN+UP Arrow, and it NOW WORKS TOO? What the hell is going on?
