Hi, I have the following configs for the corresponding prices. Can you help me decide?

    Thinkpad T61 $1,150

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz 800MHz 4MBL2)
    Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
    14.1 WXGA TFT, w/ Camera
    Intel GMA X3100 GM965
    1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)
    UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad)
160 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim
    Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
    4 cell Li-Ion Battery
(No S-video out) though I use it quite often I am willing to let it go if I am over compensated by 'other factors'

    Dell Inspiron 1420 $1132

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition
    Anti-glare, widescreen 14.1 inch display (1280x800)
    Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
    3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
    160GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)
    Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini-Card
    Built-in Bluetooth capability (2.0 EDR)
    Integrated 2.0 Megapixel Webcam
56Whr Lithium Ion Battery (6 cell)
    High Definition Audio 2.0
S-video out (this I use very much)

Both the prices are with taxes, shipping etc. I have the price quote for both.
I dont play any games and I dont need a battery thats sticking out. So I choose the Intel graphics card and 4/6 cell batteries. But I really need a machine that is pretty powerful to do everyday computing. With only 1GB RAM in the current configured T61 I will have to shell out another $80-$100 or so to get an extra 2gb stick to match with dell's 3GB. that brings it to a price of
    $1250 for T61 and only 1132 for Inspiron 1420.

Do you guys have any suggestoins?

What? Why? That doesn't make any sense. You don't need a powerful computer to do every day tasks.

Don't bother getting 3 GB of RAM from Dell, a waste, 2 GB is okay though. Why get the 2.2 ghz when the 2.0 ghz saves you money considerably compared to the 2.2 ghz when you're not getting much performance. Heck, you could bring it down to the 1.6 ghz on both.

Have you considered the Dell D630? This is probably the closer to the T61. I just got this from the Dell outlet:

    Latitude D630 Notebook: Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.00GHz) 4M L2 Cache, 800MHz Dual Core
    Logitech 2-Button USB Optical Mouse
Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
    Genuine Windows XP Home
    24X CD RW/DVD Combo Drive
120 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
    9 Cell Battery, Primary
14.1 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ Notebook Screen
    1490 Wireless Card
    1 GB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz (1 DIMM)
    w/3 year warranty

    for $676

I added a 1gb stick of RAM for $25 on my own.

That's a lot better deal mind you, it doesn't have the Santa Rosa chipset. I dunno on how muhc of a difference that'll make.

if you like DIY stuff e.g. upgrading cpu etc., 1420 would be the best option, T61 would take 2 hours for swapping cpu while 1420 only 5 min...

That sounds like a pretty neat offer. Where can I get it? Where is the dell outlet?

I configured it such a way that the price go to 1399+ so that I can avail a 425 coupon from dell. My every day tasks including working on a dozen windows with different programs some of them include huge data intensive computing programs.
