I ordered a Studio 15 a couple of weeks ago with this config:

    Studio 1535, Intel Core 2 Duo T8100, 2.1GHz, 800Mhz, 3M L2 Cache
    Tangerine Orange
    4GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm
Hi Resolution/Bright, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch WLED display (1440x900)
8X Slot Load CD / DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive)
    Integrated High Definition Audio 2.0
Dell Wireless 1510 802.11n Half Mini Card
    Integrated 2.0M Pixel Webcam
56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
    Dell Travel Remote Control, IR
    Back-lit Keyboard

It came to $1515 with 3 year warranty(hardware and accidental/lojack) and shipping, tax, etc

I have been fooling around with configs and came up with this on an Inspiron 1420:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T8100 (2.1GHz/800Mhz FSB/3MB cache)
    4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
High Resolution, glossy widescreen 14.1 inch display (1440x900)
    128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GS
    250GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
    Blu-ray Disc Combo (DVD+/-RW + BD-ROM)
    High Definition Audio 2.0
    Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
85Whr Lithium Ion Battery (9 cell)
    Dell Travel Remote Control, IR

It came to $1530 with same warranty, shipping, tax, etc using the 30% off Inspiron coupon

Would it be wise to change to the Inspiron and wait an extra week for a laptop?

If it seems like a good idea I would re-order if my Studio 15 date gets pushed back more than a week which I think it might.

I'd stick with the Studio. The materials and design affect the build quality. Also the keyboard is sub par in my opinion. I've compared a 14" HP DV series to the studio and they were almost the same size (thickness) and had the same weight. The LED is the real killer in this deal, hands down it makes the Studio a better contender.

A very interesting dilemma indeed. At first I was amazed on how come Inspiron is coming so expensive till I saw yr blu-ray drive. Knowing that the blu-ray has won the battle on HD DVD content, its surely lucrative to have that. But does the Inspiron has HDMI port (as without that some fun out of Blu-Ray drive will be lost)?

This is a tough one to call but if you want more portability go Inspiron (smaller screen, better battery)
