    Hey all,
I purchased an Inspiron 1420 about three months ago and so far im mostly satisfied. I dont really like Vista, but i can live with it. Now i have a problem with my main desktop pc so im using my laptop for school and I want to connect it to my desktop LCD to get the 1280x1024 res im so used to. But everytime i connect it to my 1420, although the laptop screen turns off and the LCD turns on, the LCD screen remains black. It is clearly on (button is green and screen is lit) but it doesnt display any input from the laptop. The computer recognizes the screen and that it has a default res of 1280x1024, but i cant use my (top condition) 19" LCD with my laptop. whats going on? Any suggestions?
    regards
    draknir

toggle through holding fn and the F8 keys. those are different options.

Try going into the advanced options of the graphics card and putting the unit into "CLONE MODE", or a tab for "Configuring multiple displays",instead of standard mode... I'm not in front of a Vista based unit right now, I kinda forget how to do it, but nizzy1115 really knows his/her stuff, so he/she should be of better service than me

hey, thanks for the reply! I finally got it to work. I couldnt find clone mode, but fiddling around with control panel i found a tab for configuring multiple displays. bam it works. I can even set it to primary and when i start up it uses the LCD. thanks for the help buddy :)
