when i first turn on my wonderful 1420, the first thing i thought was...I hope my screen wasn't a SEC, after several research i came up I in fact get the SEC screen, i like it, its not as terrible as my old QDS on my vaio laptop, but anyway im SENDING IT BACK FOR A SCREEN REPLACEMENT!!
any others 1420 proud owners..could you tell me which screen do u get?
mine is a 1440 x 900 SEC4457![]()
-
-
Um, why are you returning it then if you like it?
-
-
i dont like the SEC because THIS THREAD i think my SEC could be brighter...even the centrino duo sticker is whiter than the screen, the most important thing to me are whites and brightness, anyway if i dont like the new screen i will ask for a replacement again
-
i have seen computers w/ brighter whiter screens, the most important component to me is the screen i'd rather to have a celeron m laptop w/ a super screen than a core 2 duo w/ a dim grey screen -
hmm how do you return them for money or replacement?does it cost you anything?
does the basic warrany that came with the system cover that?
this is my first dell purchase any help is apreciated. -
just go to dell.com and talk w/ a Dell rep, tell him that you are not satisfied w/ the screen quality
within warranty period its all free, even the shipping -
-
youre welcome...do it just in case you dont like some component...i.e. the battery life or the screen brightness, even the speakers sound haha
-
just hope you dont get the auo we have had 2 of them now and both were absolutely terrible
-
i thought AUO was the best :S
so i should tell to the rep not to replace with SEC nor AUO?
what other choices do i have? QDS ,LPL or CMO? -
-
-
lol you dont have a choice.. they give you what you get.. i spoke with a case manager, a supervisor and also now today someone from corporate
-
my auo is not at all grainy either but all the whites are basically yellow, and everything is faded out really bad color wise..
-
can someone explain to me what graininess is?
-
-
you cant tell them not to use a auo it doesnt matter.. i told them thes same thing and i got a auo... there is no way to tell them you dont want a certain brand cant be done even if they tell you they can they are flat out lying
all my whites look like cream or eggshell paint color -
Great... now I'm worrying about my laptop... and it's not even here yet!!!
On another note... everytime I look at your name I end up listening to the Killers... =/ -
well ill take that risk..if the screen dont like me i;ll send them again..and again..and again.. -
i have a matte sec screen and its amazing
-
haha i like the song... -
I don't know where you've heard all these things... but from what i've gathered
AUO screens are the worst. They have the most problems.
SEC screens have mainly good screens and a few bad ones
LG screens gotten the best feedback from this forum
I have an SEC screen, color, image etc is all crystal clear. As someone said earlier, only downside is the viewing angles are not as good as they could be, but i can deal with it because its still beautiful
oh as I said somewhere else... maybe you can tell w/ the part number/item number what you're getting
my sec screen is
itemnumber/partnumber : 320-5521/JX293 -
On the other hand, for a return do they ship you a replacement laptop first with a return box and you return one? Or how would that work? -
read this thread about SEC screens ...i'll check my part number
... -
-
Thats based off another model laptop and manufacturer. Based off the comments within the Dell forum about THIS particular machine, the Seiko screen has gotten much better feedback than the AUO screen while the LG sceens have gotten the best.
/edit: that thread is also almost a year old.. -
i'll stick a note to my screen "PLEASE REPLACE ME WITH A LG OR SEIKO" in order to make know the tech guys what do i want
-
You're going to get back an AUO with a post-it saying "NO".
I can see that happening.
And you should look into some other Killers songs... -
haha if that happens ill send back my computer with another post-it, give me back me back my SEC or you will see this computer here very often
and..ok..ill do it haha -
There is going to be variation from model to model, even batch to batch. Even with the same SEC4457, someone likes it and someone not. If you like the one you have right now, what is the point to exchange it? Try to get something worse? I'll care less from what other people said a year ago about a different model. Afterall, it is more critical where it was actually made than the brand name.
LOL. -
anyway...im returning the sewc in hopes to get a better screen, is fifty-fifty, 50% probability getting a new screen, i also put a post-it in the screen saying: replace me with a lg or seiko, algo i put a note in the computer saying, do not use sec or auo
-
ok never mind i change my mind...i'll stay with my good old SEC4457 panel
since it has a lot of ggod feedback
