Not compatible though parts are very similar.
Both 14" screen sizes have the same dimensions and look and both accept the same LCD cable ends (from lcd to board) but the cable itself must have different wiring and not compatible with one another. I've tried putting in the 900p (1600x900) from the Inspiron 1440 onto the Studio 1458 720p (1366x768) and it would not work, I also tried swapping cables and it wouldn't work either even though everything fit perfectly from motherboard to lcd.
Keyboards are the same sizes, cables are the same, but the cable is mounted differently (more of.. they're flipped from each other) so it would not work.
Studio 1458 has beefier speakers than Inspiron 1440 and cannot be swapped either.
Battery pins are the same on both the laptops but the battery shape is designed different and thus would not fit.
Basically everything was designed very similar but most of the parts are not compatible. Inspiron 1440 has a plastic casing while the Studio has a stronger thin metal casing. So if you're looking to swap parts over, too bad. Motherboard is designed differently also.
I had the chance to try this out because my Inspiron 14 was replaced with a Studio 1458 (without giving me my 9-cell and 1440x900 resolution screen back) So I was sent another replacement, this time a Inspiron 1440 with a weaker processor i3 -> Core 2 and 3gb to 2gb and 512mb ATi to onboard but with 9-cell and 900p screen... and no HDMI out on this Inspiron 1440 *sigh. So I tried to put the 900p onto the Studio 1458 and just keep it but I guess it didn't work..... I guess you can't have everything....![]()

On another note.. my brother has a Studio 1558 and that thing is awesome. 1080p screen looks beautiful and 9-cell battery is nice. I have no idea why dell isn't offering any of those options on the Studio 1458. And I know they have those parts available, they just don't want to sell it! I guess i'll just wait until the next generation of 14"s... 15"s are just a bit on the larger side.
