I have an Inspiron 15 and a Studio 15 with identical specs for the exact same price configured on Dell.com (Differences in ports though). Is one of those two lines a slam dunk over the other considering they are the same price and specs? I'm not particularly concerned about design so throw that out. It seems the reviews on here say the Inspiron has better build quality than the Studio.

The speakers on the Studio are considerably better; the webcam is 2.0MP instead of 1.3MP though hardly a deal breaker. To me, the keyboard sounds and feels a class above(which it is). IMHO, the build quality of the studio is better. Just go to your local Best Buy to have a look, the chunky hinge, slot loading drive, the keyboard, the wedge design, the speakers... Then again all these are just down to personal choice. I'd choose the Studio any day.

I'd say studio because it has:

    a, a slightly better GPU
b, better connectivity (HDMI, eSATA, firewire, etc)

    Arguably it looks better also.

The build quality of the original Studio 15 (the 1535 & 1537 models) was inferior to all other Dell laptops in recent memory...but the current 1555 is far better!

The Studio 1555, at the very least, is as well made as the Inspiron 15 (1545). It also is lighter, has superior speakers & subwoofer and HDMI & eSATA ports!

The Inspiron 1545 has a glossy black interior (palm rest, touchpad, display bezel) that is impossible to keep clean. The Studio has silver/gray interior trim which is much easier to maintain and looks better, in my opinion.

Go for for the Studio! The Inspiron only makes sense if it is signifcantly less expensive than the Studio!

The Studio 15 does have excellent build quality, and a better graphics card if you get the dedicated option. If you get the same specs and price, I would go for the Studio; the Inspiron 15 is much more budget-oriented, and as a result you lose some neat things like HDMI and stuff.
