    Hi Everyone,

I picked up an Inspiron 1501 for a great deal and I noticed my memory is only running at 266mhz and not 333mhz

I have Vista Ultimate 32bit running and I was wondering if there is a way to set the memory speed.

I checked the memory speed using Sisoft software and it also showed that the memory was capable of running at 333.

    any ideas?

You cannot just set the speed of the memory bus. My guess is that your processor has a 533MHz/266MHz bus, which keeps the memory from running faster.

    What processor do you have?

Capable of 333MHz and running 333MHz are two different things, and a few things can affect that speed.

    I have the amd Athlon X2 Tk-55 (1.6 dual core I believe)

I thought the bus speed would be dependant on the speed of the memory chips?

nevermind - I found the issue! the FSB is 533 and is limiting the memory and cpu from going to it's fullest potential. :(

anyone know how to get a new bios that would allow making the fsb 667 instead of the 533?

BIOS upgrades do not magically change your hardware specs...

I was just wondering is the 533 bus is limited by hardware or by software(bios)

no magical bios upgrades expected here
