I have a question. I'm trying to figure out if the inspiron 1505 and the inspiron 6400 have identical keyboards?

basically, i bought a 6400 a few years ago, it's still under warranty. It got stolen not long after i bought it.

I got my GF a 1505 and considering it was so cheap i didn't bother with an extended plan. now her keyboard is having problems.

So, basically i want to know if i can call dell and get them to send me a 6400 keyboard, (because it's under warranty), then put it in the 1505? then just send them the 1505 keyboard back?

Just want to know if they're identical?

Now, i know my plan is sort of underhanded, using another Laptops warranty to fix one without. But i've givin' dell a lot of business from myself and family, so one keyboard shouldn't be too much of an issue.

    Thanks.

The E1505 and 6400 don't just have the same keyboard; they're the exact same machine. I'm not sure why it was sold under two names; I think one was sold under Home and Home Office, and the other sold under SMB.

Yeah, they're exactly the same machine, just different names.

I had a 6400 and my gf had a 1505. They were identical.

thanks for the replies. Good to know the KB's are the same.

They aren't exactly the same. The 6400 had the extra media buttons. I think that's the only real difference. but i still wanted to make sure.

EDIT: i meant to say the 1501 not the 1505, but that link to the part also says 1505, so i think i'm good. unless anybody has anything to suggest otherwise?

The difference was the inspiron 6400 came first. It was only available with core duo processors.
The E1505 came out about 4 month later with support for core 2 duo processors
Shortly afterwards, Dell released a BIOS revision for the I6400 which supported core 2 duo processors as well

Also to note, the E1505 was never offered with the Intel GMA, the I6400 was.
When the E1505 was introduced, Dell sold their surplus I6400's by changing the above keyboard bezel to the E1505, and selling them off with the Intel GMA and so forth.

Most of this is not true. I have had multiple E1505's with UMA graphics. I also bought about 10 of these units during their initial launch and both where available at the same time with Core Duo and later Core 2 duo support.

These systems are identical in every way, in fact I was sent an 6400 systemboard to replace an E1505 systemboard and the on site tech was able to flash the E1505 BIOS on the 6400 systemboard after it was replaced.

The 1501 is yet a different story as it is an AMD system.
