    Hi guys,

I tried putting this mini card in my Inspiron 1520 but the antennas are too short to reach the card...I need like 1 cm for all 3 (white, black, grey).

Is there any way to extend the antennas? Is it because of my screen's too short cables? Has anyone tried this?

    Thanks!

EDIT It turns out that the additional 3 antennas do reach the card. As these are intended for WWAN can I use them for the WLAN? The grey is the same as blue, but white/white stripe and black/black stripe seem to end up at different locations at the upper left/right corner...

Okay...should have tried before posting. I unbundled the wires which allowed for the black cable to just barely reach slot 3 on the 6300. The grey one I passed through a "shortcut" and I also barely hooked it up. For the white one I had to cut one of the curves, hope it doesn't distort the "force".

In other treads I found that WWAN and WLAN cables are designed for different frequencies, therefore I went for the touch-up option B.

The cables are long enough, but without the touch-up none of them reaches a half sized wi-fi.

I am very happy now, as the card is working just fine.

I guess my question was stupid, if noone else has had this issues or topic is irrelevant then let the admins just delete the tread.

Actually I was just in the exact same situation right now, same laptop and wireless card; I was already looking for extension cables or something but only ones I could find were rather expensive ( here if they're of any use for somebody).

Is that so? I connected them to my card since I saw in pictures in the internet that they were connected to the same things as the ones for WLAN, I connected the one for WPAN (blue one) to where the grey one should be and the card is working right now. But if that's the case I think I may disassemble the laptop to change those cables, did you encounter any problem for changing the curves in the cables up to now?

Thank you anyway, your answer helped me quite a lot.

Actually there is some difference as to where they end up. I cant remember exactly but I delved into it and found that the stripe color ends up at a different location than the full color one and the two parts seemed to be unconnected to each other.

This led me to believe that I cant use the ones intended for WWAN. Or is it Bluetooth (WPAN)?

Anyway if you google it you can find some articles which say that usually there is some difference in the frequency. I cant be an authority on this one - I don't know the material inside out.

Changing the curve for the white one was easy - just remove the black tape on the curve and slightly pull the cable through the 3 others.

For the grey cable I used a flat screwdriver to gently put it through the "shortcut". You can use the blue cable instead as it connects to a similar metal part.

You really need to remove the tape that holds all cables together. With me it was so tight that I needed to pass through first the white/grey/black cables before the others so that they reach the half card.

Just play around with it :) Its fun :)
