My Dad ordered an Insprion 1520 and it just arrived today. Sometimes I wish I haven't read the problems people are posting about their screens. I probably wouldn't have noticed the so called "grain".
The first thing I did was check the LCD maker and its an AUO2077 LOL. Then I finally realised what people meant by "grainyness". I could see it especially in a white background. :(

Second thing I checked was the headphone jack. Yes, there is a high pitched buzzing sound. Similar to a CPU whine but only heard when using headphones. Its easily drown out by music but its getting on my nerves.

On the plus side, there is no cpu whine and build quality is solid.

Now I have to deliver the bad news to my Dad when he comes back

Actually, if it's his notebook, see if he notices. There's a good chance that he won't.

He already knows about the problems unfortunately. Before the purchase, the sales person said it was either a choice of SEC or LG now for the inspiron. I guess thats bull

Aye, when I tried asking about what screen I was getting I was told "DELL" "You are getting a DELL screen, very high quality build and model, we don't have any other screen, all our screens are made by DELL" - Just so happens I got a LG screen, I feel sorry for those who are getting the bad screens!
