Did a search on newegg.com refining it to include the follow specs:

    2GB
    DDR2 667 (PC2 5300)

Here's a link to get to all the options:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...Subcategory=381&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc=

Below are all of the options:

    Transcend - $39.99 (Model: TS256MSQ64V6U)
    pqi - $39.99
    AllComponents - $44.99
    A-DATA - $47.99
    Transcend - $47.99 (Model: JM667QSU-2G)
    Kingston - $50.99 (Model: KVR667D2S5/2G)
    G.SKILL - $54.99 (2GBSQ)
    WINTEC - $54.99
    G.SKILL - $54.99 (2GBSA)
    Kingston - $56.99 (Model: KVR667D2SO/2GR)
    mushkin - $59.99 ($39.99)
    PNY Optima - $69.99 ($44.99 after rebate)
    CORSAIR - $69.99
    Patriot - $69.99 ($44.99 after rebate)
    GeIL - $111.99 ($51.99 after rebate)
    Crucial - $82.99

So with all these options, where's the best place to go? Some of these I don't understand the difference, such as the same brand with different models at different prices?

    Any suggetsions?

not really a difference. first only get ones with lifetime warranty, then go for price.

pny looks good for the price as does patriot. those would be my choices.

i have corsair in my laptop, but honestly there wont be a difference. get one that has a lifetime warranty then find the cheapest price with the warranty.

Kingston, Corsair, Crucial and OCZ are among the best manufacturers of RAM.

How do I know what bit system I'm running and if my computer would even be able to utilize 4GB RAM?

I just bought an Insprion 1520
    Intel® Core 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)

Your system is running 32 bit unless you installed a 64 bit version of Windows on there.

    According to the Microsoft webpage:

"All editions of Windows Vista 64-bit provide increased memory support beyond the standard 4 gigabytes (GB) available with 32-bit editions. Refer to the specific edition of Windows Vista 64-bit to determine maximum memory capacity."

Why do people say that you need 64-bit to run 4MB then? And also, I thought it was about having a 32 or 64 bit processor. How do I know if I have that?

Laptop memory doesn't matter that much, and for that price they are all budget RAM modules.

For desktops, g.skill or patriot FTW. I've had both and they work great. g.skill overclocks like a dream, patriot is pretty good too (desktop RAM that is...)

Yeah, but when you buy on Dell.com don't they all come with 32-bit? How do I get the 64-bit?

From Dell, you can't. You have to buy it from Microsoft.

So I'm guessing you can't say "I have 32-bit but I want to upgrade to 64-bit" and then have them send it to you for free?

    1. Mem manufs get their chips from the same pool of chip manufacturers. Some companies have better QC control than others, while others offer lifetime warranties. Since you never really know what you're buying when you're buying memory, stick with a brand at least someone has heard of or can recommend and then make sure it offers a lifetime warranty. Kingston will replace your memory for as long as they have them on hand (which is a pretty long time).

    2. Microsoft offers an upgrade path for Vista 32-bit owners that doesn't require you to buy another full version of Vista. The problem is, Dells don't qualify and so I have no idea what it is supposed to cost. I spoke with a Dell tech about it and all he could say was that since Dell doesn't offer any 64-bit drivers, they wouldn't support anymore OS/driver related issues if I upgraded (I'd be on my own).

    3. It doesn't matter how much memory 64-bit supports. The hardware in the 1520s only support a maximum of 4GB, so that's where you'd have to stop. I upgraded mine to 4GB regardless of what 32-bit can use. The system recognizes all 4096MB of my memory.
