Crucial.com lists this as being compatible with the Inspiron 1520 - 4GB kit (2GBx2), 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400
The 1520 comes with PC2-5300 RAM though. What are the advantages/ disadvantages of switching to PC2-6400?
I know that my computer will not see the full 4GB, but if I do choose to increase the RAM, I want to make sure they match, so I will change both sticks out.
Also, would there be any Pros or Cons if I kept just 2GB but switched from the PC2-5300 to 2GB of PC2-6400? Seems like a waste of money and wouldn't gain much, if anything...but I'm not a techie... I'm more of a chisel & stone tablet kinda guy.

You're not going to see any difference with faster RAM...It's not like you can change the bus/memory multiplier or increase the FSB speed or anything. But it's not going to hurt.
And you won't see the full 4 GB unless you are running Vista 64-bit. -
That's pretty much what I thought. I don't think it's worth it. PC2-6400 on the Crucial.com site was about twice the price of 4GB of PC2-5300...besides the fact that it can be found even cheaper elsewhere.
Thanks for your help.
