    Inspiron 1520 BIOS

    Hey,

    So according to Dell's Support page the latest BIOS for the Inspiron 1520 is A09 http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=BIOSA&catid=-1&dateid=-1&impid=-1&osl=EN&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=INS_PNT_PM_1520&hidos=WW1&hidlang=EN&TabIndex=

    However when I go to the support page via my Inspiron 1520's Service Tag it does not show that BIOS update, infact no BIOS update is shown at all. Currently I have BIOS Version A03.

    So does anyone know why for my service tag the BIOS update isn't there? Is it safe for me to update to the A09 version? Also is A09 indeed the latest version, and if so what advantage would there be to updating to A09 (For ex. would the BIOS then allow the PM965 chipset to work with more than 4 Gigs of RAM)?

    When you enter your service tag, there are two drop downs under "refine your results" when selecting from "Operating System" or "Category", do you see "BIOS"? If not, I'd say it's fine to update as long as you're positive your laptop is an Inspiron 1520 ;)

    As far as the latest update, A09 would indeed be the most current. For enhancements, it says:

    "Fixes/Enhancements
    ------------------
    1. Update GM965 Graphics VBIOS from 1466 to 1588.
    2. Update Intel CPU family name."

    What I'm not sure how you can find out, would be what previous updates addressed.

    Yeah there is the option "BIOS" on that drop down menu. And it shows 0 files.

    Take a look for yourself.

    And as you can see if I click on "All Inspiron 1520" I can get to the A09 update like I mentioned earlier. So yeah I don't know why it doesn't show it under my service tag. So is it safe to update the BIOS even though it excludes it for my Service Tag? =/

    Thats very odd.... I can't imagine there being a problem with it (installing the bios update) as you can loose your service tag. They give you the option to still select your system from the list and download updates. If you are truly concerned, it can't hurt to shoot Dell support an email.

    try to change the OS (to vista or XP) and wait till the browser finished loading.
    If that's no help, try other web browser.
