Hello everyone, I have a few questions about the build quality of the new inspiron 1520 (because I want to buy one heehee).

Keyboard - Flex?, How does it feel?, How is the layout?, How do the keys feel?

LCD Hinges - I have read teh the LCD hinges feel weaker than they should be. Is this true? If so, how bad is it?

High Pitched Whirring - This is a very controvercial subject, but do YOU hear it?

Speakers - I know there notebook speakers so they are not going to be phenominal but, How is the quality fo the sound? Volume? Like at full blast is it decently loud and is the quality good.

Camera - How is the quality of the images? Is it good in low-light situations?

DID YOU GET THE BLUE ONE!! haha if you did is the blue like light? (pictures?)

there is no flex and each jey feels firm when you press it

the hinges feel weak, but the screen does not wobble when you shake the base or anyhting bad. It actually feels nice because you can move the screen up and down without the whole base lifting up.

the whining is minimal and I only hear it every once in awhile and in the headphone jack I can;t hear it at all with my headphones.

The volume and quality of the sound is great. It can get loud enough to hear on like a loud bus ride and it still sounds crisp.

the camera takes decent images. I have a photo in another threat i'll post in a minute.

No i didn't get the blue one sorry

    hope this helps

on post #6 on page one is a pic from the webcam

Edit: btw it works amazing in low light. I was in a pitch black room and it took a picture of me that with the light from the screen was just as detailed as one with light

Keyboard - Flex?, How does it feel?, How is the layout?, How do the keys feel?
No flex, feels very sturdy, low profile keys. But is is quite chunky - no where near as sleek and sexy as a Sony, Toshiba, etc.

LCD Hinges - I have read teh the LCD hinges feel weaker than they should be. Is this true? If so, how bad is it?
My hinges feel solid. Takes some effort to move the screen up an down

High Pitched Whirring - This is a very controvercial subject, but do YOU hear it?
From time to time. No different to any other notebook I would imagine.

Speakers - I know there notebook speakers so they are not going to be phenominal but, How is the quality fo the sound? Volume? Like at full blast is it decently loud and is the quality good.
Good enough and loud enough. I usually plug into speakers.

Camera - How is the quality of the images? Is it good in low-light situations?
Haven't really used it but seems pretty good.

DID YOU GET THE BLUE ONE!! haha if you did is the blue like light? (pictures?)
It's midnight blue. Pretty much looks black unless in bright light.

Keyboard - pretty good for a mainstream laptop.

Hinge - could be better, but nowhere as bad as its latch.

Whirring - unusable with headphones. Otherwise, not so annoying unless in quiet place.

Speakers - it sounded ok..I mean, its a laptop, right? Its not as good as, say, some Toshiba, though.

Camera - pretty good, I think

Keyboard=NO FLEX WHATSOEVER. Very solid, and keys are easy to type on. Spaced out well.

Hinge-It's not loose at all. Mine's perfect. It's tight enough where it doesn't wobble when you type, and loose enough that the bottom of the computer doesn't come off the desk when you lift the screen. And it's easy to move when you want it to move.

Whirring-I don't hear it at all (I got lucky I guess). But that's not Dell's fault, it's Intel's. It's present on a lot of the computers, including HP, Apple, IBM, Sony, Fujitsu, Acer, etc. etc.

Speakers-They're great!!! If you have a well recorded song and turn it up full blast, there is no distortion or hissing and it's very loud. Also, the increments between the next volume and the present one are good too when you use the media buttons (of course you can customize it in windows by going to volume control).

Camera-EXCELLENT. Dell is either the only one or one of the few who offer a 2.0 MP camera, rather than the standard 1.3. The quality is great, even in low light. And in lot's of background light where you expect it to silhouette you, it doesn't. It somehow still shows you and the bright background well.

    Hope this helps.

Oh, and the blue is very sexy. That's the only way I can describe it.

I'm an ex-1520 owner -- had it about a week and a half -- but
I liked the keyboard. It felt solid.

I didn't notice them being particularly weak.

I only heard noise when I put my head right next to the left side of the laptop. I'm not sure I'd call it a whine. It was more a high-pitched Morse code-like beeping sound.

Better than most laptops. Decent volume, though not as good as using headphones.

    Didn't get the camera.

    Didn't get the blue one.

Returned the laptop because of the yellowish screen.
