I've got a problem and I'm sick of going to Dell Technicans for the answer. My 1520 Inspiron with Windows Vista Home Premium has been constantly loading and will not stop. It dramatically slows the system down as it does this. I actually rebooted Windows itself to factory settings but it STILL loads(and is slow)!!!!!!

I've done a Virus scan and found nothing that would seriously hurt the system. Could there be a problem with my hard drive? Suggestions/Solutions would be greatly appreciated!!!

My Vostro usually is always loading something as well (I believe its Indexing), but it never seems to hurt my performance. Maybe someone else can clarify.

It could be Vista majorly slowing down the system. That would be my first (and unexperienced) guess. How much ram do you have?

Do a clean install, don't worry about loading the first week as Vista's just learning your preferences (indexing, prefetching). And go from there.

just leave your laptop on for several hours if not all day. It should eventually stop.

    cntrl + alt + esc
    performance tab
    resource monitor
    disk tab
    look what's reading/writting

I had that problem to, it was indexing, went away after a month, now only does it like once a month, but it never got to the point that it slowed down the computer...

your drive is indexing itself so that the new search feature can return results quickly.

removing vista because of this is hilarious.

I installed Vista on my T60 over the summer. I had constant hard drive access. I disabled indexing and it kept doing it.

For most people it will eventually stop after Vista "learns" your system, but for others it will actually never stop. This is going to be addressed in SP1.

If it's really bothers you there are number of solutions out there where turning off certain features will do it. Or upgrade to a 7200rpm drive :)

thanks for the suggestions! I think the hard drive may be the problem after all. I still need to run another diagnostic check to ensure this. If it's the case, I'll consider upgrade and have Dell come out since it is covered under my warranty.
