I was just wondering what socket the Inspiron 1520 uses. Right now I have a the T5250 and I'm looking to upgrade to something a bit quicker.

Its Socket P as Lithus so eloquently stated.

I recommend that you max out your ram(4GB) and HDD(7200 rpm) before even considering a CPU upgrade.

BTW, what kinds of tasks do you do on your laptop.

I agree...more ram will definitely make it "faster" than an actual faster processor.

Also, it really depends on your software setup and how well you maintain it for it to "feel fast."

I game on it. I don't use up the 1.5gb that I have now, but maybe adding more would help. When I play call of duty 4, cpu usage is up to 100%

I like to keep it clean - spyware, virus, etc, registry daily and defrag usually once a week. I tweak the computer quite a bit by killing services and startup grams that I don't need

And is socket P laptop specific?
