I would like to upgrade my CPU in my Dell Inspiron 1520. I have an Intel T5250 C2D 1.5 GHz Socket P and would like to upgrade to the Intel P8600 C2D 2.4 GHz Socket P processor is there any reason I could not do so? Are there any known compatibility issues with these two processors? Thanks!

P.S. I have the most current Bios as well A09

Nope. Won't work. You can only upgrade to the 1st gen Penryns (FSB: 800MHz) or the Socket P Meroms....

Ok then are there any recommendations? One of the things that I liked about this processor was its low power consumption and faster speed and the 45nm architecture. Would the Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 be a viable option?

Is there anyway to tell if the CPU I am purchasing is refurbished or not?

CPUs are not refurbished. They are either Boxed (Retail), or OEM (Unboxed).

OEMs are normally stripped out of notebooks that are upgraded to the high-end C2Ds, and are also labelled as 'Used'.

Check this site, and ask the seller the "Order Code" of the CPU, and you can find out if that CPU is OEM or Retail.
