Hi, I've got an inspiron 1520 that has recently been giving me trouble with its display. When I turn the laptop on, the Dell bios screen comes up and loads, and I always get to the Vista log in screen with no problems. After logging in, within a few minutes (usually... sometimes it works for a few hours), the screen will flicker a bit (changing brightness at random) and then completely shut off. I've connected an external display, and found that not only is the monitor not displaying anything, it actually isn't even detected in the Device Manager. It will occasionally become detected again (as if it has been unplugged and then plugged back in).

I thought that it wasn't doing this when running on battery power, but as I'm typing this post, it just flickered, so I guess that isn't true after all.

Also, because the screen is connecting an disconnecting repeatedly (it does come back in short periods after its died sometimes), trying to just use an external display doesn't work, as the laptop tries to switch back to its built-in display when it becomes available again.

Thank you for any help you might be able to offer,
    -James
