Does anyone know how I can disable the dimmer while using battery power?

While I appreciate the gesture to save power, I can't read anything on my screen in daylight.

    Hello,

This is Richard from Dell's Online Community Outreach group. You can change the brightness of the LCD display by holding down the Fn key while pressing the up or down arrows. Reply back if you have any difficulties trying that out.

It didn't seem to work but I'll try it again to be sure and get back.

Thanks for the quick reply : )

I had trouble with my 1720 yesterday. Couldn't get it to change the brightness, even though the little icon came on the screen. Ended up rebooting and all is good.

or set up a power profile for running on battery and set it the same as running on a/c power.

I tried that, but when I pull the plug the screen still goes dim.

Another thing you could try is setting the LCD brightness within the bios. Power on the computer and press the F2 key as soon as the Dell logo appears on screen. The system will then indicate it is preparing to enter setup (aka the bios). Once you are there, go down the list and look for Video.

Set the Brightness all the way up. Save and exit the bios. Test and reply back if that worked?

    Hey Richard,

I went to the coffee shop during lunch and adjusted the brightness like you said while on battery power. I'll see the difference when I plug in at home, but in a worse case scenario its plenty bright.
