I just switched over from an Inspiron E1705 to the 1520. For the moment I'm using both, and I noticed that the screen on the E1705 is clearer and has more vibrant coloration than the 1520's. Granted, the former is a UXGA (1900 x1200), while my 1520 has a 1440 x 900 resolution, but that doesn't account for the color. Compared to the E1705, the 1520's screen seems dull, almost pallid. Has anyone else noticed such a thing?

dell is using cheap LCDs in their new laptops. go figure. my 1520 LCD is grainy and pallid. i believe some of them are 6-bit instead of 8-bit, so they are not capable of creating true color without dithering.
let me be psychic- is your LCD is a SEC3350? -
You're close enough - it is a SEC 3157. With a little searching, I just came across a whole deluge of postings on this topic; LG being superior to SEC screens, etc. Guess what? The E1705 I have has an LG screen.
Great, I don't know exactly how to get Dell to replace the screen but I have to try - this looks too horrible to not try something. -
I won't buy a dell again, after my experience with the LCD on the Inspiron 1520 I bought in December 07.
It was washed out, they replaced it, the screen is now fuzzy. Incidentally it was replaced with another Samsung LCD.
I was told they would have other makes in, in April, I could have a new one then. Come may, I was told, that person has left, and you can only have one of, what you already have.
This morning the engineer came with a replacement screen, It was a refurbishment screen.
I didn't notice this factor until he had fitted it, and found it was, what he called DOA..dead on arrival, so he refitted my old grainy screen.
And I told them, refurb is unacceptable, this is a factory fault, not something that has developed later...
I've now asked for a complete refund....
I was buying a dell every year..now...my advice is 'Buyer beware'.
