I recently got my inspiron 1520 (without the webcam). However i know there is a microphone in there because i used it once. Then i reinstalled windows vista and now my speakers work fine, but can't get the microphone to work. I was wondering if anyone knew which driver is for the microphone. And once again it doenst have the webcam so i dont need that, just for the microphone. thanks.

I would re-install with drivers from Dell site as they have been "Dellized", these contain enhancements to native OS drivers and drivers from vendor website. Re-install the sigmatel audio driver from dell support and be sure to install the NSS software listed under system utilities. - jeff

Install the Sigmatel Audio drivers from Dell site as already posted!!!

Take the advice you've been given...

I have the microphone working here so either the Sigmatel Drivers has it or the Notebook System Software (NSS)...

Do it FIRST then post again!

I think you got to select the proper Microphone input device.... There will usually be two - one for the built-in MIC and the other for a MIC connected through the MIC-IN jack....

First of all I have the webcam installed. I've used the mic before but now msn tells me there is none installed. Checking recording devices in Vista I indeed find no mic installed but only the line-in option. Even selecting "Show disabled devices" does not show the mic. Reinstalling the device driver with the drivers from Dell's website lead to no results. Could anyone please help me? I'm on a tour throughout Europe and I can't use Skype :(

P.S. These topics are probably about the same issue:

    ---edit---
It seems that when you use the setup of the dell driver the driver won't be installed correctly. Instead of the Sigmatel driver, a Vista HD driver is installed. When you do it manually using the device manager of Vista the device is installed using the Sigmatell driver and works perfectly after a reboot!
