I have an Inspiron 1520 and suddenly i'm faced with this new problem. The notebook is relatively new, got it last decemeber only.

I noticed this now after having installed and played Crysis on my notebook. The thing is, if the notebook screen is on low brightness or on battery power when it automatically shifts to low brightness, it makes a weird noise as that of some electrical noise... and its constant. But the strange thing is, as soon as I attach the power cord, the noise goes. If I take the cord out, the noise returns. If on battery, I change the screen brightness to max, the noise goes away. And yes, finally if I close the lid and the screen turns off, the noise goes but if I pull it back up the weird sound returns. Its like a electrical humming or signal.

    Any clue?

It may be the inverter or backlight buzzing, or even the whine from Core 2 Duos.

Cud be... But I don't want my screen to all of a sudden burst on my face one day ! :p Just kidding...

The funny thing is just one level down from the max brightness the noise returns.

One more thing... cud keeping my laptop screen always on AC power and with max brightness affect the life of the screen? Could this be he reason for the funny noises?

That sounds like its the processor, not the screen.

Most of the Core 2 Duo's seems to make a little electrical "whine" when converting voltagess (so i have heard).

I have the same problem... let me know what Dell says ;)

And it's true that putting the brightness up to full will cause the buzzing to go away, but I don't feel like wearing sun glasses when I use my PC!

Well I finally called up the Dell Customer Care in India today. He asked me to run the diagnostic checks on the system and the system passed all the tests. So the next thing he told me that by Monday an engineer would just come and replace my screen altogether. Thank God... the buzzing was driving me nuts now!!
