I noticed in the past few weeks that more and more people got interested in Vista x64 from the NBR community. Kudos to Trebuin and flamenko here (being the PR folks for x64). And quite a few are using dell hardware, especially the very popular 1520.
Therefore I decided to share my personal driver pack for Vista x64, that includes all drivers for my config. (just click the links and download, I'll upload the whole package when I find some more time)
Here a small overview:
Graphics: Nvidia 169.04 (modded for mobile use 8600M GT)
source: Laptopvideo.com
Audio: SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio Driver (vers.6.10.0.5609)
source: Dell
Card Reader: Ricoh R5C832,R5C833 Driver (v101) be sure that you have one of the two types here, as this driver doesn't include R5C843
source: Dell
Chipset: executable infinst_autol (8.3.1.1009)
source: Intel
Ethernet NIC: Broadcom 440x (4.60)
source: Broadcom
SATA: Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver (7.8.0.1012) AHCI support
source: Intel
WiFi: Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network (11.5.0.32)
source: Intel
Modem: Conexant HDA D330 MDC (vers. 7.59.00.00)
source: Dell
With most of these drivers you'll have to use the "have disk" method, except the chipset inf utility, which you'll have to run.
Have fun with Vista x64.
On a personal note I really recommend making a customized Vista Install image with vlite, it saves a lot of tweaking and you have all updates and drivers included + you can cut down on the bloat that Vista installs by default.

Thanks Cyan, rep for you!!!!!!!!!!!!11
I just dual-booted with Vista-64 and so I'm starting from the ground up.
Cheers! -
Burning anything seems to freeze my computer on x64 =/
-
Running here as well, I really hate the folder layout option views though, I wish i had XP classic folder view controls. Other then that its smooooth sailing so far. Never going back to 32bit except to XP pro for music production.
When I DL'd the Nvidia 169.04 vista 64 drivers from lap2go the package says 169.02 though. -
Yeah they are mislabeled I think. I tried installing the 169.09 drivers, but the .inf file must not have been modded correctly b/c it said it wasn't a valid Vista driver.
-
Great list there!
Would these likely work with a Vostro 1500 as well? -
Sure,
as long as you have teh same hardware (should be the case with a Vostro 1500). But as usual, check first. -
same here the folder layout option view sucks -
-
updated two drivers.
-
Anyone have any problems with these drivers? - I'm thinking of installing x64 tonight.
-
What about the webcam etc... will all of this work in x64?
Where can I get the webcam drivers/utilities that I need for x64? -
I believe the webcam drivers are on the Dell site, just go to Vista 32, several of those drivers are 64-bit compatible.
-
So the only specific Vista x64 Drivers that I would need would be the ones that are listed here? -
Which machine do you have? I had to get a Touchpad driver from Synaptics.
Thar she blows: http://www.synaptics.com/support/driver_license.cfm?id=61
I just looked at some of the drivers I still have files for, the webcam is R155105.exe -
Yep its the one with the synaptics touchpad.
Where did you get the webcam driver? -
Off the Dell website. I'm pretty sure it's listed for the Vista-32 as well.
-
I tried installing x64 and it was a disaster. Now I've moved to Vista Ultimate 32Bit. Would love to get x64 going as I have a free licence (I have MSDN).
Anyone able to help me? -
Define disaster, what went wrong? My install went flawless. Did you do a clean install (cleared partition).
We need EVERYONE to go Vista 64
Check this post, I would have really liked something like this when I installed:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=194831 -
1. Can I use Dell's drivers for their wireless NIC?
2. Does Vista manage to recognize everything else on its own?
3. Whats the best way to get x64 since MS often doesn't allow OEM upgrades? -
1. I think that's your only option. It it's a dell wifi chip then, you have to. Unless you can code your own
2. Now, what do you mean by "everything else"?
You have to know what devices you've got in your laptop. And even though dell officially doesn't provide x64 drivers, you can find most of them on the dell site (just enter the device name in the search box + x64, or vista 64). There will be a lot of entries, so be careful to get the right drivers.
3. vista x64, now this has been discussed in a couple of threads in this forum, so just search for it or, look in the windows section. -
2. Everything else meaning the usuals. Chipsets, USBs, etc., etc.
3. Yeah I know... what about the WAU CD? Short of buying a new OS, I don't see any way to upgrade to 64-bit with my current license. -
Your licence is fine. You just need media.

i just got my vostro 1500 and I am planning on installing vista 64. I am assuming that these drivers would work with the vostro since they are similar hardware.
my specs
intel C2D t7250
8600m Gt
2 gigs ram
120 gig harddrive
dell wireless card
integrated webcam
do the dell drivers work for the dell wireless card for vista 64? I also heard about the BSOD loop with start up so how would I avoid that?
Thanks in advance -
Mine is up and running. Those drivers should work just fine. I have not had any problems, except with the touchpad, get the driver from Synaptics. And yes, the dell drivers work for the wireless.
-
thanks
what about the possibility of the bsod loop. I cant seem to find the thread in which you have to install some intel driver before installation if i remember correctly -
...I've wondered about that. Personally, I didn't install any driver, and I've never had a problem. I recall what you are talking about, I think it might have been in a thread for an HP lappy, but I'm not sure...good luck!
-
i wasn't as lucky...I am in the BSOD loop =/
edit: figured it out =) -
kaspersky keeps telling me that the audio drivers from dell is a p2p worm...false positive?
-
-
i reinstalled vista but before I had it installed, i loaded the intel matrix storage drivers first. There will be an option prior to install, to load drivers. The driver I used came from the dell site. I found the link to that driver from this site. I wish I could remember what I searched for.
-
Hi all nice forum my first post
Great list Cyanize thanks for sharing
I too have the Inspiron 1520 w/ the same config as yours, when fresh installing Vista x64 I get a bsod loop, could only get out of it if I disable the AHCI in the BIOS and run the HDD in ATA mode.
When I try to install Intel Matrix Storage it tells me your system does not meet the minimum requirements. I tried installing the executable infinst_autol which is a requirement, but it still the Intel storage... tells me my sys doesn't meet the req (after restart and all). I think it doesnt detect an AHCI capable HDD and so quits the setup.
So I'm gonna format and reinstall Vista x64 now (need to partition) but was wondering if I can use the Intel storage matrix setup file in the load drivers option when installing vista to load the driver for AHCI and so preventing the loop, or do I have to get a .inf file to do it. I remember that option was asking for setup information.
I think this could be relevant to your situation too dave443, any help would be appreciated.
thanks
EDIT: update, you could unpack the driver from the installation package using this:
c:\iata76_enu.exe -a -a -pc:\[path]
or
dl it unpacked directly from here.
dont think I can install the driver without a clean install of vista, lucky I have to reformat anyway. -
Just to update I got it going on my Inspiron 1520.
Didn't try again untill tonight.
Everything seems to be working fine but my Windows Experience index remains "unrated" no matter how many times I refresh it. -
64bit vista audio driver update for all:
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=3&fileid=235764 -
Thanks for that!
Anyone have the problem with the rating that I posted above? -
I installed that audio driver, and now I get Windows Event Log & Security Center crashes at startup
...any ideas? -
I installed Windows Vista with the Flash Cache off and using ATA (instead o AHCI). Everything went ok, but the sata driver doesn't seem to work. It says that the system doesn't meet the minimum requirements. I tried the driver in the first post with the AHCI option off. How do I install the SATA in order to work?
-
Truth be told, you probably should have installed Vista with the AHCI driver & with AHCI enabled, the forums are full of those who wish they had <cough cough>...yeah, that's me. Having to go back and re-install the driver is nothing but a hassle.
-
Exactly what I needed. Thanks so much, saved me the work of finding this all myself.
-
Hello!
And thanks Cyanize for ideas.
I have installed Vista 64-bit + SP1 on Dell Inspiron 1520 two days ago and it works very well.
At the begining I see in "Device Manager" 3 not recognized items but after the first "Windows update" session the drivers were installed and everything was OK.
However, I installed 4 drivers and 1 application, as shown bellow:

OMG i register just thanks for this!thank you!i cant find list on the web except here!thank you!

This one came from the grave.

Anyone tried these drivers on Win 7 x64? I'm in a situation where I need to go 64 bit on my laptop and would like to try out 7 ... plus its less resource intensive I guess.
-
Hey Miller,
I used to be pretty organized back when I was using Vista x64. When I did a clean install with Win 7 beta I had all the current Vista drivers ready to go. To my surprise, I don't think I had to load up a single one of them. 7 was REALLY good about locating the appropriate driver and installing it through windows update.
Not sure if that answers your question the way you had intended, but I've not had to worry about drivers for my Vostro 1500 (which is essentially an Inspiron 15xx). -
I'm going to install win 7 64bits tomorrow or in the next days
And I was thinking about installing the last nvidia drivers which are on the official nvidia website
But I see that some of you prefer installing modified drivers instead of the official ones , what's the difference ?
Regards,
(Sorry for my poor english )
Dell 1520
2Ghz / 8600M GT
memory up to 4Go since yesterday -
I just clean installed RC1 again last week. I'm running the 191.00 drivers and all is running pretty smoothly.
As far as "difference", that's highly anecdotal, meaning it will vary by machine and user. When I feel like an upgrade, I just go to the laptopvideo2go forums and read the reviews of the various drivers and try to get a sense for which would run best on my setup. Since your setup is almost identical to mine (1520 ~ Vostro 1500), I don't think you'd have trouble with the 191.00 drivers. That said, except for when I was trying to OC my vid card and get max benchmarks, I've only had problems with the lv2g drivers on very few occasions. -
Thanks for your answer ,
Isn't it better to have the 186.81 which are whql ? -
In my opinion, in this case, "Better" is all relative, but if it helps you sleep better at night, then yes, WHQL is better =]
